Tutors Needed...

Northeast High School is in need of
tutors, especially math for their afternoon academy held on Tuesday
and Thursday afternoons from roughly 3-4;30 PM. I am currently the
only extra help that they have. I have been working with ESL kids.
Today there were around 25 kids needing tutoring in math and only 2
teachers available. These kids were needing help with their
individual benchmarks. Please, please, if you could give 1 day a
week,it would be appreciated., Many of you have been asking for a
chance to help with something worth while. It's time to put your
words into action. Here's your chance to actually make a difference
in a childs life.

Alumni Room Help Needed...
|
Today in the alumni room, we ran
across a small sampling of literary treasures from various lit
societies.. We would like for more materials to be shared since
we'd like to put a display together. We'd also like to request
help from everyone belonging to one of the groups to help put it
together. We thought we'd branch it off from lit night through
each group (society), both male and female.
We could also use a couple of men
and or women to help change things glued to the wall. We started
to use up the empty wall space ( where things have fallen down)
putting together memorabilia that should be displayed. I can
meet any day.
We also were visited today by the
new basketball coach asking for wall space for his winning
basketball teams banner. Even though they haven't started
playing we assured him that we'd make space. We also were
visited by a retired teacher who inherited a deceased teachers
pom pom squad stuff. She asked if we could help find their
owners. It's quite nice to see the excitement being generated
among students and staff.

The Alumni Room is in need of yearbooks. Many of the Alumni from the 1920's thru the 1940's have been generous by donating their yearbooks. There is especially a need for yearbooks from the 1950's and 1960's. Your donation of yearbooks and memorabilia will be welcomed. MENTORING PROGRAM...
Would
YOU consider helping by mentoring/tutoring the youth at Northeast High School?
NE Counselor Louise Waller is very understanding of your personal time
limitations and coordinates YOUR availability with a student who needs extra
attention in the area of your choice. The main areas of need at Northeast are
language arts...reading, writing, spelling, English skills, and math. But you
may help a student with science, history, or another area of your choice. We
are asking an hour of your time when you are available and that time may vary by
the week. You DO NOT need a background in education to be an effective helper.

We can answer your questions and concerns. The paperwork, which requires filling
out an application to Youth Friends for a background check, is quick and easy,
followed by attending a 2 hour class to go over procedures and helpful tips as
you work with a student at Northeast.
You may begin the procedure by calling Youth Friends yourself.
